Filmtips - Crooked
Seven years ago, a mighty sound from the underground hijacked the ultra low-end frequencies of the Crooked city, terrorizing the populace through subversion. Some took heed, while others ignored the threat. Now WordSound brings Bass Terror to the big screen with Crooked: The Movie & The Soundtrack (WSCD041), a one-of-a-kind DVD/CD set, featuring a 2 hour film and its 74-minute soundtrack.
This is not an act, this is actual facts--a film based on real experiences, using real people, shot on location in the Rotten Apple. Crooked follows the trials and tribulations of Sensational, a consummate original and poster child for the underdog, on his quest for major label stardom. The road is rocky, and the truth, often, ugly, but the film celebrates the ingenuity of the creative mind and determination of the independent spirit. Like other classics of sonikcinema--Rockers , Sun Ra's Space Is The Place ,Wild Style, andGhost Dog --Crooked is at once real, surreal, light-hearted, dark, humorous, insightful, campy, edgy, but, above all, a fresh gust of dust for your lens. The documentary feel of digital video coupled with everchanging beatscapes gives you a voyeuristic vision into our crooked world--a world of illusion, but, also, one of endless possibilities.
Sensational's blunted sounddesigns, which anchor the film, are complemented by new and classic tracks from Spectre, Anti-Pop Consortium, Scotty Hard, Mentol Nomad, Bimos, Ish, Leon Lamont and more. You may have heard some of these songs before, but they acquire a new life given their context in the film. Anti-Pop's song, "Sugar Worm" is an exclusive, and Spectre drops 2 new joints in anticipation of his forthcoming album Psychic Wars (WSCD044) later in the year. Mentol Nomad's new track "Fallen Angels" also appears on his solo debut Mentallica (WSCD043), due out later this year. At 23 tracks and 77 minutes, the soundtrack could still not possibly accomodate all of the music in Crooked, so look out for Crooked: The Original Score (WSCD042) coming soon.

Moka Only (as Ron Contour) - Saffron
Den här skivan släpps den 23 mars men läckte ut på nätet idag. Lyssnar på den just nu och det verkar väldigt lovande. Moka Only är en av de där artisterna som gör mycket bra men samtidigt på tok för mycket dåligt. Imponerande mängd skivor spottas ut från den mannen varje år men vem orkar hänga med? Så om det är en skiva man skall koncentrera sig på i år så är det Saffron, mycket tack vare Factor såklart.

Sole lämnar Anticon

Today, with a heavy heart I end 11+ years of working with anticon. In the early days of the label, anticon was a pet project of mine, a life-long dream. We fulfilled the dream of a collectively run record label and put out many great records and stood as an image of defiance against the music industry. Those memories, I will always have and be proud of. Sadly, those times are gone, and I need to live in the present as I prepare for the future.
Leaving the company was not an easy decision, but it was made necessary by a number of factors. Upon returning to the states from a 2-year exile in Spain, I found myself increasingly at odds with the business end of anticon and began doing more DIY work via soleone.org. Running my own website and taking a more hands on approach with my art has always brought me great satisfaction and it is what I am choosing to return to. There are no ill feelings between myself and members of anticon. I will continue to work with many of the artists and will always love them as brothers and consider them allies. This is a decision to change the way my music will be exploited and adapt to shifting paradigms.
We created anticon as a response to what was going on at the time in the music industry - the indy boom of the late 90’s. There were still a viable music industry then and people bought records. That’s how we built up our empire. The music industry isn’t just dying, but what it means to be a recording artist is changing. Technology is making everything cheap, and cheapening everything it touches. Soon the old ways of selling records will be a distant memory, along with magazines, working musicians and employed blue-collar dads. It’s not a time to cry about the recession, or urge people to go to their local mom and pops and pick up the new sole & skyrider LP. Technology is working its magic, and instead of being a passenger on its ship, I have decided to plot a new course for myself.
The very fact that I have thrived in this environment still sometimes is a surprise to me. I’m 32 today. I put out my first vinyl when I was 16. For me its always been about ethics & passion, doing what felt right in my core and acting on that, whether or not it was the popular or conventionally wise thing to do.
From now on now all my releases will be made available @ soleone.org via my new label Black Canyon Records and exclusively distributed worldwide via Revolver USA. Det här är helt enkelt så otroligt sjukt bra. Hela skivan är ett mästerverk. Lo-fi, indie eller vad det nu skall kallas känns väldigt inaktuellt men tack vare den här skivan så tänker jag tapetsera om igen.

En dokumentär som jag inte har hunnit titta på ännu men kan med gott samvete rekommendera.
Den finns att ladda hem lite här och var samt köpa för den som inte har förstått att gratis film oftast är bättre.
Jag tänker ironiskt nog inte länka till gratisvarianten men däremot kan du läsa mer och även inhandla filmen här.
